5 Financial Resources You Need to Know About When Facing Cancer
By Joy Huber
As a stage Four young adult cancer survivor (named Joy), the Founder & Author of “Cancer with Joy,” and an award-winning international presenter who shares “Cancer with Joy” LIVE for patients, support teams, and medical staff, I’m VERY often asked questions surrounding the finances of a cancer diagnosis.  These questions come from newly diagnosed patients, those in treatment struggling with financial problems, and those who know & support a cancer patient lending physical & emotional support like caregivers, spouses, other family and friends, fellow church members, etc.
I know first-hand when you are diagnosed with cancer, whether you have health insurance or not, it is terrifying.  Add to that the big problem of being involuntarily immersed in the cancer world which adds many appointments, treatments, and recovery time to your already overly full life, and you don’t have the time or energy to be searching trying to find helpful resources.  Save your time, energy, and money by using these resources “Cancer with Joy” offers for you.  Listed below are 5 resources; Chapter 9 of “Cancer with Joy:  How to Transform Fear into Happiness and Find the Bright Side Effects” has 25+ pages full of resources to give you much-needed hope and help!
I often tell people, I know that “No one is happy they have cancer, but you can have cancer & still be happy.”  I help a lot of people get unstuck from shock, fear, anxiety, sadness, and anger by helping them discover how to have cancer and still be happy!
Start with these resources, and you will find many more helpful ones in “Cancer with Joy.”

Video Testimonial for "Cancer with Joy!"

Hello!

I hope you subscribe to my newsletter I send out 1x/month.  If you want to receive it you can sign-up on the right side of this site.  I recently sent it out for this month & it's filled with the latest exciting happenings for "Cancer with Joy" and valuable web resources from Chapter 9 My Resources chapter.

I want to share this video testimonial I received recently for "Cancer with Joy" that I also featured in my monthly newsletter.  It means so much to me because of who it's coming from and what they said about "Cancer with Joy."  Jeannie Levinson is a very accomplished woman herself and her husband Jay Conrad Levinson has sold over 21,000,000+ books.  So I guess they know a good book when they see one!  When Jay was diagnosed with cancer I sent him a copy of my book.  I admire Jay so much as the Father of Guerrilla Marketing.  It blew my mind when Jeannie told me Jay has information I need to get the word out on my business to help others discover they can face "Cancer with Joy."  Then she said I had information Jay needed to face "Cancer with Joy!"  It's a Great reminder we all have something of value we can give that will help another, no matter who they are and who we are.

Here's Jeannie's video testimonial for "Cancer with Joy:  How to Transform Fear into Happiness and Find the Bright Side Effects."  It you click on the title it'll go to Amazon so you can download it to your Kindle immediately.  If you have a nook, the link to download this book is here.  You can get a copy of the book personally autographed by me here.

NEW Cancer Diagnosis - Video from ASCO!

I know first-hand what it feels like to have the word "cancer" associated with you.  I'll Always remember the day when the word was FIRST mentioned to me - Friday, March 12, 2010.

I had to wait nearly two weeks to have my diagnosis confirmed; that happened Wednesday, March 24, 2010.  In the meantime I was online; I couldn't help it.  I had so many questions, and in between appointments, I was searching . . . for answers, information, comfort, hope, and happiness in spite of this devastating news.  I wrote in my book about how I was googling and freaking myself out reading information without considering the source.  I now say that's a "Don't!"

How I wish someone had told me about www.cancer.net!  Now I let others know about this Phenomenal resource.  If you can't stay off the internet, at least go to sources like this instead of googling your symptoms and questions.  Anyone can be a content provider these days!

I recently found this video on cancer.net that is only about 5 minutes and has some really great information.  Check out "When the Doctor Says Cancer," and please pass it onto those you know impacted by cancer (newly diagnosed, patients in treatment, caregivers, etc.).

HELP! What to Say When Someone Has Cancer - Dos &&& DON'TS!

I just got off the phone with a health reporter from a metropolitan area newspaper.  He called me as a source for a story he's working on because he has me listed as an expert in his file.  While I'm not a medical Dr., from the real cancer patient perspective I told him about two (whatever you want to call them), drugs, medicines, etc., what I understood them to be for (& when I checked the manufacturers' websites I had it right on!!), and the staggering cost.  I followed up by e-mailing him briefly so he had some things in writing since I talk fast.  I gave him 5 websites I knew of RIGHT OFF THE TOP OF MY HEAD that will hopefully save him a lot of time searching.  Most of these websites came from my book "Cancer with Joy:  How to Transform Fear into Happiness and Find the Bright Side Effects."

I hung up the phone, and will admit I sat there for a minute, the magnitude of this sinking in.  A reporter I respect for a major paper just called ME as a source, and I thought about what all I know and could connect him with quickly because I have experience as a real patient AND expertise researching this so I can save many others time.  I am so honored when people call me!

I'm seeing more people purchase "Cancer with Joy" for that very reason.  In minutes you can download 153 numbered pages to your ereader  (Kindle Here or Nook Here) for under $10 and begin reading!  Books are such a Tremendous value and resource!!!

I just added to the top of this site another resource I know of (I have so much information to share with people!) that helps a LOT of people when someone they know gets diagnosed with cancer and is going through treatment.  I certainly heard as a patient from plenty of family and friends, "I DON'T KNOW WHAT to SAY OR DO!"  Well, don't know no more!  :)

www.cancer.org is SUCH a phenomenal resource, and I wrote about it at the beginning of my resources chapter.  When I land there, and I've heard this from others too, it can be overwhelming though because there is so much GREAT info. where do you go to find it.  I certainly click and then use the Back Button a lot on it!!  That's where "Cancer with Joy" comes in.  In the book I list specific drilled-down links . . . save YOUR time & energy searching because I already have done it for you.

Excellent Information I would echo here (do's & dont's!) as someone "who's been there" being diagnosed with stage FOUR cancer as a young adult as age 33!

What to Say When Someone Has Cancer

& if you need it again, you can bookmark it or just come back to the top of www.cancerwithjoy.com, your 1-stop connection to valuable resources that save you time, $$$$$, AND energy!!  I am constantly adding so come back and see what's NEW!  It's an honor to see people's copies of my book, with pages bookmarked, and highlight, starred, etc. so they can pick it up & quickly find exactly what resource they need.  As much as I'd LOVE to as one woman, I can't answer the phone calls and e-mails of millions, and that's why I created this essential resource to give everything to the millions (even at 3:00 a.m. when I'm hopefully sleeping you can find exactly what you need THAT minute!).

Is there a "101" for Cancer??? Helpful RESOURCE from "Cancer with Joy"

I remember back to when I was in college, even though that's been "a few years" ago!  :)  If I wanted to learn the basics about any new subject, it was commonly known to take the "101" class.

When I was trying to rapidly learn about cancer after my diagnosis, I was thrilled to discover though time-consuming research I did so you don't have to saving yourself all kinds of time and energy (& Money!) there's a "101" for cancer too.

This is 1 of 13 resources I share in my "Cancer Information" section of the Resources chapter of my book, "Cancer with Joy:  How to Transform Fear Into Happiness and Find the Bright Side Effects."  Remember you can get the book IMMEDIATELY downloaded to your ereader whether you have a Kindle OR Nook it's available both ways!  Click on the corresponding device or see the right side of this page as you scroll down you'll see all kinds of Great things including links to media I've done surrounding "Cancer with Joy (Print, Radio, & TV!)," as well as links to short videos you can check out!

www.cancer101.org—“CANCER101’s mission is to help patients and caregivers get organized and informed to fight their cancer. They provide CANCER101 Planners to cancer centers in all 50 states to give to their patients and caregivers in need. The planners are free to their patients and include essential organizational tools and important resources designed to empower patients and caregivers to take control over their diagnosis from the moment they learn they have cancer through the next ten years of follow-up care. The planners encourage patients to partner with their medical team: questions are asked and answered, notes and appointments are written down in one place, and patients and caregivers feel in control. And just as importantly, the planner gives patients and their loved ones hope. CANCER101 Now Supports People with Any Cancer.”

Facing "Cancer with Joy" . . . ALL the Time??? A VIDEO from Joy . . .

Because the idea that you can face "Cancer with Joy" is just becoming known in the mainstream, I am asked a lot of questions about it!  These come from media interviewing me so they can discover what the idea of "Cancer with Joy" is all about, and they come from people who hear me speak, whether it's at a hospital, cancer treatment center, to a company, college, association, church, or otherwise as part of a panel at a conference, etc.

One of the most frequent questions I get has to do with if I, the Founder of "Cancer with Joy," ALWAYS face "Cancer with Joy???"  So can YOU realistically expect to face "Cancer with Joy" ALL the time as I asked in the title of this post?  I'd say "No!"

After all, in Chapter 4 of my book "Cancer with Joy" "Twelve (Recommended) Dos & Don'ts at Diagnosis," the Number Two "Do" is "DO get mad, sad, bitter, depressed, etc.!"  The idea of "Cancer with Joy" is just that you don't stay STUCK there, and that you have more good days than bad going from diagnosis through treatment because you've been introduced to this idea of facing "Cancer with Joy," and because you have the essential resource to discover how at your fingertips.

By the way, all of You Nook Customers can now download "Cancer with Joy" IMMEDIATELY to your Nook at http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/cancer-with-joy-joy-huber/1105025903?ean=9781614481010&itm=1&usri=cancer+with+joy

Since I've gotten such Wonderful feedback on my videos, I made another video for you addressing the question . . .

Was it hard at times for You to face "Cancer with Joy?"  En"JOY!"

Where can YOU get FREE 1-on-1 Cancer Support??

On page 70 of my "Cancer with Joy" book,  I say

Number Nine--DO talk to someone who has "been there."

when sharing

"Twelve (Recommended) Dos & Dont's at Diagnosis"

in Chapter Four.  I've received many nice compliments on this helpful list for the newly diagnosed and how it helps them focus on an easy, short list when frankly their world has been turned upside-down and they have no idea what to do NEXT!

Here I talk some about Imerman Angels, which is just 1 of multiple places I list in my comprehensive resources chapter under the "Cancer Support" section.  In this section, I also talk about www.hopefortwo.org, which I've written about before.  I've written about Imerman Angels before but I made a brief video also that only runs about 1 and 1/2 minutes.  Please share this resource with others you know that could benefit from this . . . it's FREE!
